Maurice Glasman

Person

Maurice Glasman is a Labour life peer and founder of the Blue Labour movement, which urges the Labour Party to adopt more socially conservative positions on immigration and culture. Despite being reported to be a close adviser to Prime Minister Keir Starmer's chief of staff, Glasman has built extensive ties with the right. He praised former Trump strategist Steve Bannon as "one of the greatest politicians of our age" and was the only Labour figure invited to Donald Trump's second inauguration. In November 2025, he delivered the GWPF's annual lecture, in which he called net zero a "fantasy", advocated new coal power, and called for the national grid to be taken over by the Ministry of Defence, prompting the Labour Climate and Environment Forum to say he was spending too much time "with right-wing campaign groups". He also spoke as a keynote speaker at the annual conference of Together, a Reform-aligned conspiracy group that has spread misleading claims about Covid vaccines and climate policy.
