Nathan Gill

Person

Nathan Gill is a former politician who served as a UKIP and Brexit Party MEP for Wales (2014–2020), leader of UKIP Wales (2014–2016), member of the Senedd (2016–2017), and leader of Reform UK in Wales in 2021. In November 2025, he was sentenced to 10 years and six months in prison at the Old Bailey after pleading guilty to eight counts of bribery under the Bribery Act 2010. Gill had accepted around £40,000 from pro-Russian Ukrainian politician Oleg Voloshyn between December 2018 and July 2019 to make scripted pro-Russian statements in the European Parliament and in media appearances, using codewords such as "promised X-mas gifts" and "postcards" in their communications. The judge said Gill had allowed money to "corrupt his moral compass" and that his conduct had "fundamentally compromised the integrity of a supranational legislative body". Voloshyn has since been sanctioned by the US government and indicted for treason in Ukraine, and is linked to Konstantin Kilimnik; a Russian intelligence figure sanctioned for interference in the 2020 US presidential election. The case prompted the UK government to launch an independent investigation into foreign interference in British politics.
