Daniel Hannan

Daniel Hannan is a peer in the House of Lords and director general of the Institute of Economic Affairs, a free-market think tank funded by oil companies including Shell, BP and ExxonMobil, taking up the role in June 2026. He was previously Conservative MEP for South East England from 1999 to 2020 and one of the founders of the Vote Leave campaign. He also founded the Institute for Free Trade in 2017 and served as international secretary of the Conservative Party under four successive leaders before relinquishing the Conservative whip on taking up his IEA role.
