Jacob Rees-Mogg
PersonJacob Rees-Mogg is a GB News presenter and former Conservative MP for North East Somerset, who held the seat from 2010 until losing it to Labour in 2024. He held several ministerial roles including Leader of the House of Commons under Boris Johnson and Secretary of State for Business under Liz Truss, and chaired the hard-Brexit European Research Group from 2018 until resigning on appointment as Leader of the House in 2019. A devout Catholic, he has described himself as "completely opposed to abortion" including in cases of rape, calling it a "cult of death", and has said his opposition to same-sex marriage reflects "the teaching of the Catholic church". Despite his anti-abortion stance, he admitted to indirectly profiting from the sale of abortion pills through dividend payments from Somerset Capital Management, a company he co-founded. He faced widespread condemnation in 2019 after suggesting that Grenfell Tower victims should have used "common sense" and ignored fire service guidance to stay put, and dismissed the Partygate scandal as "fundamentally trivial". In October 2025, he urged Conservative voters in Caerphilly to back Reform in a by-election.
