Mark Thompson

Person

Mark Thompson is an investor with interests in metals, fossil fuels, and renewable energy, and co-founder of the Centre for a Better Britain alongside his business associate David Lilley. He is a former partner at Apollo Management, sits on the board of VSA Capital — which advises oil and gas companies — and is director of Godolphin Exploration, a mining company producing metals for the energy transition. According to James Orr on the BBC Today Programme, Thompson and Lilley have been friends with Nigel Farage since they worked together as metals traders in the late 1980s and early 1990s — "fellow travellers" who "went boozing with him when they were in the commodities business". Thompson has criticised climate policy on social media, writing that it is "legislating the end of CO2 emissions forcing the end of cheap energy production", and previously donated to Liz Truss via company Tungsten West Plc, which he was director of.
