Liz Truss

Person

Liz Truss is a former Conservative MP for South West Norfolk who served as 56th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for 49 days in 2022, before her "mini-budget" sent the pound to an all-time low and she resigned. She lost her seat to Labour in 2024. She previously worked as a Commercial Manager at Shell before entering politics. As PM she lifted the ban on fracking and objected to King Charles attending COP27; she has since claimed in her book that she also attempted to cancel COP26 while at the Treasury. She has called for abolishing the Climate Change Act and has close ties to the Institute of Economic Affairs, having spoken at more of their events than any other politician over 12 years according to the IEA's own director. Since leaving office she has embraced MAGA, describing Trump as having "achieved tremendous things that we're all very jealous of here in Britain". She chairs CPAC Great Britain, whose inaugural July 2026 conference featured Nigel Farage, anti-abortion campaigners, and Jack Posobiec; a far-right activist who has spoken of the need to "overthrow" democracy.
