Michael Gove

Person

Michael Gove is a Conservative peer and editor of The Spectator, appointed by new owner (and owner of GB News) Paul Marshall in October 2024. He was a Conservative MP from 2005 to 2024 and held several cabinet roles including Education Secretary, Justice Secretary, and Education Secretary. He was founding chairman of Policy Exchange. Gove has a long-standing relationship with Marshall: in 2012, when David Cameron refused to fund Gove's plan to send King James Bibles to every state school in the UK, Marshall stepped in to foot the £370,000 bill; the following year, Gove appointed Marshall as lead non-executive director of the Department for Education; and in 2016, Marshall funded Gove's Conservative leadership campaign. According to Tim Shipman's book All Out War, Gove made up his mind to back Brexit "after calling Paul Marshall".
