Miriam Cates

Person

Miriam Cates is a GB News presenter, former Conservative MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge (2019–2024), and sits on the advisory board of the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship. While a Conservative MP, she co-chaired the New Conservatives faction with Danny Kruger, which received £50,000 from GB News funder Legatum. At the 2023 National Conservatism conference in Westminster, she claimed that "cultural Marxism" is "destroying our children's souls"; a term the government's independent adviser on antisemitism Lord Mann described as "antisemitism" and "just not appropriate for a parliamentarian to be using". She has voted consistently against improving abortion access, and has complained that the Conservative government between 2010 and 2024 "was not conservative", citing the introduction of gay marriage as an example. In January 2026, she wrote in Conservative Home arguing that British conservatives should "lean in" to Viktor Orbán's Hungary, describing Orbán as "the prophet in the wilderness whose warnings have, time and again, been proven true."
